“ In all countries of the world, people with disabilities does not receive appropriate attention, and this is due to the unintended bias of non-disabled people toward people with disabilities.” Representative of UN Secretary-General in Iran said.

“Of every ten people in the world, one person is with disabilities, they face many difficulties ,but the most important challenge faced by people with disabilities in the world is that non-disable people look at them by an unintended bias, if they can set aside these looking, we may hope that their problems such as making accessible the places and streets will be resolved.” Gary Lewis On the sidelines of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities said to the reporter of Raad Rehabilitation Goodwill Complex.

“ I should mention that in all countries of the world, people with disabilities does not receive appropriate attention and this is because most of the authorities are healthy and non-disable. For example in my country (Barbados) which became independent 50 years ago, there is no sufficient facilities for people with disabilities”, he added.

Lewis mentioned that the movement should start from community leaders and politicians, he said :”Politicians from all over the world should change the manner of their talking and behavior toward people with disabilities. They should consider themselves as people with disabilities; exactly same as what I have done today and sit on wheelchair.”

He also mentioned to the role of mass media in solving the problems of people with disabilities and said : “Media such as audio-visual media, writing and cinema should draw attentions to people with disabilities, and they should convey the message of these people through TV series and films. Observing the problems of people with disabilities, but ignoring them is so cowardly. “

Representative of UN Secretary-General in Iran referring to the theme of International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2015“Inclusion matters: access and empowerment for people of all abilities” said ; “This is a meaningful theme that show a society is known when it include all of his people not leaving them behind. It is important for a society to accommodate and include all kinds of human beings.”

Lewis said that the performance of Raad complex is well-known and he added : “The activities of Raad Complex for people with disabilities is compatible and in line with United Nations.”
