Overview

The World Health Organization (WHO) considers the reduced function of an organ or body part as "impairment" while the reduced function and activity of a person is called "disability". The term "handicap", on the other hand, is defined as the social, economic and cultural circumstances that place person with impairment or disability at disadvantage relative to other members of the society.

In most communities, unfortunately, disabled individuals fall victim to the wrong attitudes by fellow citizens in the sense that their attention is focused on their disability rather than their ability. Such attitude, stemming from lack of awareness and understanding, and many times coupled with pity, adds to disabled persons' physical limitations and often turns their impairments to handicaps. At Ra'ad Rehabilitation Goodwill Complex (RRGC), we believe that personal satisfaction can come about, inter alia, by enjoying equal opportunities and achieving self-reliance. Disabled persons, too, can enjoy self-satisfaction if they can somehow manage their physical limitations.

This self-management and empowering is what we have prioritize in our mission at Ra'ad (thunder). The choice of the name is symbolic of the institution's mandate in that just as thunder causes clouds to produce rain which brings life to the world, we at RRGC aim to help physically-disabled member of society to be liberated from isolation, interact with other parts of the society and to eventually become productive members of the community. As a sad fact, we have realized that in many cases the physical disability positions the handicapped member of the society in a lower income range of the community and in extreme cases, in absolute poverty situations.

Unfortunately, this places a financial barrier for these people to benefit from many rehabilitation and training services. Therefore, at RRGC we aim to provide all our services completely free of any charge and commitment to qualified applicants. This includes all our inception, rehabilitation services (click here for the variety of services provided) and vocational training (click here for the curriculum offered) to the disabled community. In doing so, we seek to help disabled people to overcome their physical limitations and to become specialized in certain professions and active players in the economy. When circumstances allows, we also provide certain auxiliary services (click here for details) for various purposes. We take pride in having provided all of our services not only free of charge and commitment but also free of any discrimination on the basis of race, creed, religious affiliation, sex, color and national or ethnic origin.
